10 Must Have Experiences in Paris

Wednesday, December 17, 2014

Paris is basically my favorite place on the whole entire planet.

I have have dreamed about this city since I watched Madeline as a little girl, when I started taking French classes in middle school, and when I was lucky enough to travel there in high school for the first time.

I've been to Paris so many times, and every time I go there are things that I absolutely have to do. I thought I would share that list with you! These are my top ten must-have experiences in Paris (with pictures!). I love playing tourist, so some of these are pretty touristy (#laduree) but you also see a lot of really cool things if you take the time to explore.

Tea at Mariage Frères
I actually didn't do this one until fairly recently when I went to Paris with some friends a few weeks ago, but it's basically wonderful. My favorite is the one by the Arc de Triomphe (it's actually kind of far, but hey) and I love all of their tea, but especially the Earl Grey French Blue and Sakura.

Ladurée Macarons

Touristy? Yes. Expensive? Unfortunately. Worth it? Every bite.

Montmartre
The historical Artists' District. I find it the last place in Paris to actually have that je ne sais quoi... quintessential Parisian magic.

Top of Notre Dame
Go inside too. But you get some really awesome views from the top of these awesome towers, plus you can make friends with the gargoyles à la The Hunchback of Notre Dame and maybe even serenaded by the bells.

Top of Arc de Triomphe

Basically, a lot of stairs. I like this view better than from the top of the Eiffel Tower because you can see the Eiffel Tower and the Invalides from the top of the Arc de Triomphe. Plus there are usually less people which means better pictures.

Boat on the Seine

You know that river that runs through the city? Well, it's also a pretty great way to see said city. My favorite pictures of Notre Dame come from boat tours I've taken on the Seine.

If boating isn't your thing, just hanging out on the banks of the Seine gives you a little bit of peace and serenity in an otherwise overwhelming city.

Explore the Metro

It's the cheapest and best way to get around Paris. Plus you get to see some of the more... interesting characters that this city has to offer.

Eiffel Tower at Night

They may have been onto something with the whole "City of Light" thing.

Café on the street

Want to feel essentially French and take part in some awesome people watching? Find a café (my favorites are in the 5th and 6th Arrondissements near the Sorbonne.

Museum Lovin'

The Louvre is pretty cool, but you could spend a whole day in there. My personal favorite is the Musée D'Orsay. I always visit my Van Goghs, Monets, Degas, and Seurats. It's lovely. There are so many museums in Paris, and even in my time in France and the multiple times I went to Paris, I haven't visited them all.

What's on your must-see in Paris list?
